Take an imaginative trip around the world or blast off into outer space with this fun project! We cut our paper into the shape of a rocket but you could also stick with a classic rectangle. Use paints, markers or crayons to draw details from your adventure. Or draw deep sea creatures, buzzing bees in a garden filled with flowers or your loving family on a picnic! The possibilities are endless! Have fun!!

Materials:

  • large paper
  • crayons
  • markers or paint
  • 2-3 colors of tissue paper or streamers or strips of fabric
  • scissor
  • liquid glue
  • string or yarn
  • stapler or tape

Process:

  1. Take an imaginative trip into outer space! Are you ready? 3-2-1 Blastoff! Hold on, we’re going really fast! Almost there. We made it! Look at all the bright and shining stars. Look! What do you see over there? Is that the moon? What else do you see?… Oh no, it looks like we’re running out of fuel. We better head home. Turn your rocket ship around. Here we go again, hold on! We’ve landed. Wave to all the people! They are happy to see you back.
  2. Now that we’re home let’s DRAW or PAINT a picture of what we saw on our voyage. No empty spots! Fill the page with everything you saw.
  3. Turn paper over (when dry) & GLUE PATTERN of colored streamers along bottom (Tip: Before gluing, ask your child to lay out their pattern and tell you verbally what it is, ex. red, orange, red, orange… or purple, purple, blue, purple purple blue)
  4. Grown-up, STAPLE, tape or glue ends of paper together, creating a paper tube
  5. Grown-up, TIE KNOT in ends of string and STAPLE string above knot to top of windsock (Tip: knot will prevent string from pulling through)
  6. Hang your windsock in a special spot or hold the string and SPIN in a circle to make it fly! HAVE FUN!
